School of the Future, Philadelpha, PA PROJECT: School of the Future OWNER: School District of Philadelphia, PA SCOPE: New High School, 162,000 s. f., RESPONSIBILITY: Prime Consultant / Architect of Record / MPT Engineering CONSTRUCTION COST: $52,000,000. COMPLETION DATE: September 2006 SOF is designed to be LEED Silver. Through energy and day light modeling, SOF is sited to optimize daylight, energy use, mitigate the urban heat-island effect, and optimize sizing of HVAC systems. The combination of daylighting, high-efficiency indirect fluorescent lighting, a well-designed building envelope, photovoltaic roof panels, integrated photovoltaic glass panes, and an innovative HVAC system result in energy savings that are expected to exceed the current building codes by 49%. Along with a 11,000 sf vegetated roof and a rainwater catchment system, an optimal learning environment and living textbook is created while reducing the impact on the environment and infrastructure. |
